Inspired by the story of Kate McRae, a 5 year old girl fighting a cancerous brain tumor. Kate's family had called people to pray for their daughter, follow her & her family's story & to give gifts for a Christmas project that would bless all the kids on Kate's floor. My heart bled getting to 'know' Kate online and Tutus & Tuques was born out of a desire to see other kids fighting the same battle every day touched in a way that would remind them of how special they each are. Praying about what could be made for the kids; I watched my own 2 year old dancing around in her tutu and wondered, what is more magical and transformative than a tutu for a little girl. Soft, and adorably hand embroidered hats with robots, space craft and bugs were the playful treats for the boys. I'm Canadian by birth and grew up with hats being called tuques, and thus 'Tutus and Tuques (that's hats!)' was born.

Here is an excerpt from Holly McRae (Kate's mom)'s blog that may give you a little perspective of the journey her family is on. And it is a call to action. Let's do what we can - help shower kids across our country with love through a gift that symbolizes care, compassion and the basic idea that their fight is not forgotten.

"Our new reality has opened our eyes to so many things we were unknowingly ignorant to prior. I couldn't begin to tell you them all. But tonight I want to encourage you to help those who are hurting around you. They are there. We are now submerged into a world of them. Sad and broken. Watching their babies suffer. I know many do not know what to say. Many don't know what to do. You don't have to have the answer. Sometimes just peoples compassion has spoke the loudest to us. And never feel like you are just one more person. Who doesn't want one more person praying for their child. I know so many that would love one more person joining their journey. And thank you. Thank you for willingly supporting our daughter through prayer. It is powerful and extremely meaningful to her hurting parents." (excerpt from Holly McRae's blog on www.prayforkate.com)

Tutus & Tuques is designed to empower groups of women all over our country to do what we can to help.

Let's join them on their journey....
